NFL Week 14 2023: The weather is starting to take its toll

After taking a week off last week, it was time to get back on the horse. One of the things that happens during a long NFL season is that you start to burn out a little. They're not making the right decisions (as evidenced by the 2-4 records for Week 11 and Week 12) and it's time to take a break. This pause has been stimulating, but comes at a time of year when forecasting is most difficult.

Many games this NFL Week 14 will be affected by the weather. Snow is forecast in Cleveland for the Browns' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which will impact the Jags' offense (especially if QB Trevor Lawrence can't go) and the game's over/under. There will be a lot of rain in Cincinnati, which could hamper both the Bengals and Indianapolis Colts. There's an 88% chance of rain in Baltimore – which means Ravens QB Lamar Jackson's legs will get a workout.

When it's this late in the season, here are some things to watch out for: injuries and the weather. They'll make a big difference in what you could do when it comes to betting (and don't ask me to explain Thursday night's Pats/Steelers game where they already led the O/U in the first half). ). As always, all advice is for entertainment purposes only, but make sure each selection has been carefully considered (Home Team in CAPITAL LETTERS).

Indianapolis Colts v. CINCINNATI BENGALS (-1.5)

The Bengals had a tough time this year when QB Joe Burrow went down with a torn tendon in his wrist, ending his season. His replacement, Jake Browning, led the team to a thrilling victory over the Jags on Monday night. I think Browning will do it again against the Colts, who will also have the disadvantage of being a dome team that has to play in the elements on Sunday.

CHOOSE: Bengal -1.5

Seattle Seahawks vs. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (-13.5)

This is one of those “the spread is too high” picks for the NFL Week 14 schedule. I've talked before about how these are professional sports teams – they have too much pride to be blown away by their opponents, no matter how good or bad the season goes. San Fran will win this game, and probably not by a lot, but I think the Seahawks will keep it within a touchdown, maybe a little more, but within the margin – and that's our goal, to win the bet, not the game.

CHOOSE: Seahawks +13.5

Buffalo Bills v. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-1.5)

In a rematch of last year's AFC Championship Game – and at the same site that hosted the game back in January – both teams come to the game looking to maintain their positions in the playoff race. The Bills and Chiefs are looking up Miami Dolphins in the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and both teams also suffered losses (the Chiefs lost to the Packers while the Bills lost to the Eagles). You might think that the Bills have the edge in this NFL Week 14 coming off their bye week, but I see the Chiefs trying to shake off that aftertaste of the Packers' loss (the Chiefs were, never in the game to be honest) and venting their frustration about the bills.

CHOOSE: Chiefs -1.5
