he
original X-Com: The Enemy Unknown was sold my Microprose. It is a game split into two halves - the
first section, the Geoscape, is where you build your bases, manage your
scientists, massage your cashflow and equipment supplies, train your agents,
and finally detect and intercept alien activities.
The
battlescape is where most players spend their time. The battlescape is designed with just one purpose - taking the
alien menace down!
One
of the game’s most appealing factors is that it is mainly non-linear. On other words, no two missions, no two
games, are the same. You encounter a
number of alien species, each one with individual strengths and weaknesses, in
a number of situations ranging from a scout UFO containing just one alien
navigator to enemy battleships landing at your base and disgorging dozens of
nasty alien warriors.
After
some successful missions, you will have a large quantity of captured alien
equipment that you may use to research, and once your scientists have figured
out how to use it, you can turn it against the enemy.
