Trax 2002
And I
thought that Interford 2002 was a long day!
My
day started at 03:30 hours, when my alarm went off. I was driving by 04:15, and on my way to my local ASDA to brim
the tank before the trek down to Silverstone.
By 04:30 I had filled Kermit up and was leaving the filling
station. At the M62 by 04:55, and I
arrived at the meeting point on schedule at 06:15. Unfortunately, the other guy we were planning to meet had
overslept (it’s a long story!) and so we were delayed slightly.
When
we arrived in the vicinity of Silverstone, we noted that it was very, very
busy. As anticipated. To cut an even longer delay, after leaving home
at 04:15, Kermit was finally on the stand by 10:15 hours. Now that’s a long trip there.
With
regard to the show, my digital camera was playing up a little bit (user
error, I think; it’s working now!) so I was only able to take a few
pictures, most of which have been posted here.

I spend
quite a while watching the cars and drivers taking part in either the Track
Time, or in the 0 - 60 sprint, but none of my pictures demonstrate any sort of
artistic prowess and do not convey any form of movement. The trouble was that I was too far away from
the track in both cases. None of the Ka
Klub drivers were up to either, citing one reason or another, and nobody wanted
to be my passenger if I took Kermit onto the track (pity, really). With hindsight, it was probably a good idea,
because the petrol gauge was below the red (although, in fairness, Kermit
had over a gallon remaining).
Other
highlights of the day include “Ginger” Phil locking his keys inside the Ka, requiring
the help of some of the Ka Klub boys illustrated. It was entertaining to watch, and saved
“Ginger” Phil a bob (or forty).
“Ginger”
Phil’s Ka was also sporting a brand new (as in, the prototypes!)
set of
light brows. My liking of the Ka’s
standard lamps doesn’t stop me from wanting a set of these brows, which is
covered here, and of course, it will also introduce
a new concept to the front of the Ka: a straight line! I’ve studied the twin and triple light
conversions with interest, and whilst I do like them, at the best part of £300,
I don’t like them that much. For the
money, I would rather get Kermit superchipped.
But those brows: I shall be placing an order for them just as soon as I
get Charlie’s approval (which may or may not involve ice cream!). Watch out for “Ginger” Phil’s Ka on the
packaging for the brows.
Otherwise,
the usual suspects were there with their Kas, and some people I had yet to
meet. Steve Stunty, one of the founder
members, had popped across from Romania to say hello. That’s a nineteen hundred trip - each way! Andy T was showing off FART, and discussing
some ideas (involving a big scoop, to produce FARTS, heh!).
