DervMan’s Favourite Places:

Sherwood Forest

T

hese days, Sherwood Forest is much smaller than it used to be in medieval times, but even so, it’s a beautiful part of the world to explore.

This is an example of a fallen tree.  On the original photograph, it’s just about possible to count the rings – each one, of course, showing a year.

The longevity of a simple tree is surprising.  Something this size was probably close to 200 years old when it was cut down.

During the quieter periods of the year, Sherwood is perhaps as quiet and tranquil as it was in the days of Robin Hood.
