Rolling Road Meet

November 2004, Charlie and I were invited to the Ford Sierra Owners Club
December 2004 Rolling Road
Meet. Of course, we had to bring along
our short wheelbase, front wheel drive Sierra, that’s Kermit, “just for a
laugh.” As it happened, we weren’t
going the laughing, but all will be revealed.
As it
turned out, it was an eventful day for a few reasons, not limited to Kermit
going on the rollers.
Our
day started off at four o’clock in the morning when the alarm went off. We were on the road at quarter to five and
at ten past five, I realised that I had forgotten our towing eye. I knew I’d need the towing eye to have the
Ka strapped down on the rollers.
So
we had to turn around, get home, collect the towing eye, then rush off to get
to the agreed rendezvous point on the M1.
We met up with three Sierras, and once on the road again they rushed off
at Sierra-esque speeds, trying to leave us behind.
Sorry
about the blurred picture, but we were trying hard to keep up with the Sierra
peeps (you’re thinking that there’s nobody in the inside lane? There is, but we need a tow to keep up!).
At
Uxbridge, we turned off the M25, dodged an unfortunate lady in a blue Clio (I
think every one of the convoy cut her up, although we didn’t mean to and she
was in the wrong lane too, heh) and made it to Power Engineering, Uxbridge.
Although
most vehicles present were Sierras, there were some other cars including a few
Cortinas, all in excellent condition.

There
were a variety of cars being put on the rollers, most being either all wheel
drive or rear wheel drive. Indeed,
there were only two front wheel drive cars being tested – Kermit and a black Focus.

Some
owners were more nervous than others!
