Kermit’s Grill Insert

M

ost of the modifications we’ve made to Kermit can be justified from a functional perspective, but this one can’t.  We replaced the standard Ford LuxuryKa silver grill with a customised grill.  In place of the Ford badge (which I’m kinda sorry to see go, Kermit is a Ka is a Ford) there’s a Kermit logo.  It’s not functional, it’s all for show, but we like it.

Replacing the grill insert is relatively easy and all you’ll need is a screwdriver.  Actually you can probably get away without one of these too!

To replace your grill, first you should unscrew the top of the grill.  There are three screws.  I’m sure it can be done without unscrewing this, but it’s easier if you do.

Once you’ve unscrewed the grill, you’ll note that the plastic is very flexible.  This is a safety feature - if you run over a child there’s a better chance it will bounce.  The back is also soft so don’t even think about reversing “to make sure.”

You will need to gently but firmly prise the grill insert from the catches.  This can be quite difficult, especially if the grill has been on the Ka for a number of years.  Persevere and try not to damage the grill insert.

Once it’s loose, carefully withdraw the old grill and put the new one in place.  Then it’s just a case of popping the plastic holders through the slots.

Re-tighten up the three screws on the top, shut the bonnet, then stand back and admire your work!
