Ellesmere Port

Sunday 31 August, 2003

O

n Sunday, 31 August, 2003, I dropped by the Vauxhall factory at Ellesmere Port.  Now ordinarily, I’d not be taking Kermit to such a place - the lad would think we were exchanging him for a Corsa or something! - but this event was for a good cause.  It was primarily for a young lad with cancer, who from the sounds of it is unlikely to be able to drive, but who has an interest in modifying cars.  So a few modified cars turned up!

Now of course, first off I had to get there, and that called for a meet up with my website specialist photographer, Tim Kemp.  Owing to technical difficulties with Dervy’s camera /cough/ all of the pictures you’re seeing here are Tims!

So off I toddled to Hartshead Moor Services, to meet up with Tim.

/sarcasm mode engaged/

Now of course, the Ka is going to be much quicker than Tim’s Volvo S60 turbo jobbie, as we can see from this pictures showing Kermit overtaking again.

/Mwahahahahahahaha!/

Only kidding Tim!

From the services, five of us formed up into convoy – a Vauxhall Vectra, a Mitsubishi FTO, Tim’s Volvo, Kermit and a Fiesta – and made the trip to Chester Services.  Here, we met up with some more individuals we knew, and made the final push to the Vauxhall plant.

A few?  I’m not entirely sure how many people turned up, but we filled a significant chunk of the car park, and were big enough to have a burger bar (just the one, and I’ll wager they did a roaring trade!).

As you can see, there were some exotic and rare cars at this show as well as the more common machines.

And this quite simply amazing idea: a modified motor driving school car, complete with dual controls!

I’m not sure what we were discussing, nor why Vicky had her keys in her mouth, but who cares, it’s a great shot!

All up, and for a good cause, a good day out.
