set off for Crail at 03:45 hours on the Sunday morning, driving past a few
hardy individuals who were on their way home.
From York, Crail is approximately 240 miles, and can be done in four
hours if you’re in a hurry, although this trip took us five. Our meeting point was rumoured to be the
services just south of the Forth Road Bridge, but owing to one or two timing
difficulties we arrived there at eight o’clock. Thinking that we were late, we pressed on to Crail.
Arriving
there at around nine fifteen proved to be ideal. At that time, the air is still cool and the drag strip relatively
free (once it opened at quarter past ten, but this is another story). This therefore gave me the opportunity to go
up and down the drag strip and scare a few of the slower cars (but never
actually cross the quarter mile marker in front of anybody else, but we can
live with this).
Unfortunately,
because I was taking Kermit up and down the strip a few times, I didn’t really
have the opportunity to chat much with other Klub members - my apologies to
those of y’all whom I didn’t really get the chance to chat with! We had four Kas show up, including Kermy.
Kermit’s
Crail 2004 Quarter Mile times are discussed here.
Weather
wise, we were very lucky. On the drive
up we went through a lot of heavy wind and rain, and indeed on the way home it
was also windy and raining. But during
the day at Crail, it remained reasonably bright if a bit windy.
