Remove the “B” Pillar Strips

N

ow don’t get me wrong: I do like the Ka’s “B” pillar strips.  But they’re more trouble than they’re worth.  The bonding that Ford use wears out after just a few months.  They’re more trouble than they’re worth.  So here’s how you remove them!

First, start to peel the black strip off the Ka.  I prefer to work from the top down, but I guess it doesn’t really matter all that much.  You’ll find that it’ll come off fairly easily if you’ve had them on the Ka for a few months.

You’ll find the glue bonding comes apart reasonably easily, but pull it firmly but slowly.

Once you’ve taken the black strip off, you’ll see a think layer of bonding under this.  Gently unpick one corner, illustrated, and then take that off too.  Again, take it slow and steady, and almost all of it will peel off in one go.  This is a result.

If you hurry it along, you’ll end up with a few scrappy bits left over (which I’ll deal with later!).

If everything is going to plan, you should have something that looks like this.

Now you’ll need some white spirit and a thin paint brush.  Here’s some I prepared earlier.

Now, paint on a little white spirit over any residual bits of the bonding, going slowly, to dilute and then remove it.  When its soft, gently rub it off with a rag (or, in my case, one of Charlie’s tea towels!).

And, bosh, the final result!  He’ll look a bit better after polishing him (again!).
